What kind of Flashing Lights are Best to Suit your Application?

When you’re gearing up your Utes, Diggers or Trucks, reliability and compliance aren’t just boxes to tick — they’re the keys to smooth installs, fewer hassles on the job, and staying sharp on timelines and budgets. The right beacon or light bar will keep your operation running like clockwork, with fewer breakdowns and cleaner handovers.

Want to cut through the noise and find what fits fast? Here’s your side-by-side snapshot of our top flashing lights — mount style, rating, and power, all in one place:

Learn about the different kinds of lights to work out what’s best for you:

Bar Lights:

Bar lights are sleek, low-profile units that flash a full 360°, cutting out blind spots with ease. Despite their compact size, they throw out serious brightness — all while minimising wind drag and reducing damage risk. They’re available in sizes from 248mm to 1.2 metres, with both permanent and magnetic mount options.

Fast, flexible, and built to handle it all, bar lights are now the go-to for Utes, trucks, excavators, and even cars. For metro delivery fleets, low-profile bars like the ones shown above are spot on — no fuss, all function.

Flashing Beacons:

Flashing beacons bring that classic look with a taller build and tighter base. These deliver 360° visibility and really shine when mounted higher up — perfect when you need to be seen above decks or Ute canopies. The compact base also makes them a favourite for tractors, mounted to the cab side. Low profile options are also now available.

Mounting options? Take your pick: permanent, magnetic, or pole. Beacons are the workhorses on excavators, tractors, and oversized farm machines — trusted and tough.

Direction Flashing Lights:

Need something that’s compact and road-tough? Directional flashing lights are your answer. With a low profile and rugged polycarbonate lens, they’re built to take a hit without sticking out.

These are made to shine in one direction with high-intensity flashes — and you can sync them up to flash in unison or alternate. Available in amber, red, magenta, blue, green and white LEDs, they’re a powerful fit on Utes and trucks, often mounted in grills or body panels.

Mounting Options:

Permanent:

Get it on, wire it up, and forget about it. Permanent mounts are ideal for vehicles that regularly need a flashing light — once installed, you’re ready to go from then on… Jump in, switch it on and you are all good to go!

Magnetic:

Need quick setup or removal? Magnetic mounts are plug-and-play ready with long cords and cigarette socket plugs. Fast on, fast off.

Pole Mount:

Pole-mount beacons attach to pre-wired poles for quick changeovers. These are a winner when the light isn’t needed all the time — think farm gear going from paddock to road… Have it flashing on the road and then when you are working in the paddock you can remove it quickly.

Things to make sure of before buying a flashing light:

1.     Is the light compliant with NZ road safety standards?

2.     Is it built to handle dust, water, and vibration?

3.     Is it radio interference free?

4.     Does the light have a daylight visibility over 500m?

5.     Is it easy to fit with your vehicle’s power system?

6.     Does the supplier have local stock and support if anything goes sideways?

TransQuip can confirm all these things and make sure your next fit-out is perfect.
